The primary objective of Perundurai Medical College is to be a pioneer in Medical Education with research orientation aiming to become a centre of excellence and to provide health care to the transport workers, their families and rural population in general with a special emphasis on occupational health care for road transport employees. The erstwhile Ramalingam Tuberculosis Sanatorium run by the Periyar District T.B.Society was wound up and was handed over to IRT through Government in 1987 with all the assets and liabilities enabling it to start and Medial College vide G.O.Ms.No.2194 (Transport) dated 18.11.1986. Accordingly,Institute of Road Transport took over the Ramalingam Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Perundurai for developing it as a full-fledged Medical College and Research The College and Hospital are located in a lush green land scape of 327 acres at Perundurai which is situated about 20 Kms. West from Erode.The present infrastructure consists of college building, hospital, hostel for boys and girls besides staff quarters in an area of 36,564 sq.metres. Separate hostel facilities are available to accommodate Men and Women and at present 143 male and 176 female students are accommodated in these hostels. Intake: The Medical College at Perundurai in Erode District has annual intake of 60 students as ordered in G.O.Ms.No.3090, dated 16.7.1986.The first batch of MBBS students took their final examination during December 1996 and has already completed their CRRI training in December 1997.
